team building for managers
Teambuilding
Case study: Team building for managers
Team building for the entire German management team
A particular challenge for us was an enquiry from a discounter that wanted to strengthen the teamwork of its 380 managers as part of its annual store managers' conference.
It quickly became clear that outdoor team building was just the thing for the group: taking on unusual challenges together and successfully mastering them through good teamwork.
The first challenge consisted of transporting fictitious bombs to a safe place and then defusing them. This required a steady hand, a great deal of sensitivity and well-coordinated teamwork. Nevertheless, some teams were glad that we were only working with dummies ...
We continued with the crossing of an oversized spider's web, which each team member had to cross with the support of their colleagues without touching the threads. It was a challenging task that most of the teams mastered well.
How do I build a self-supporting bridge from a few wooden slats? Each individual would certainly have failed here, but a brainstorming session with the whole group led to the decisive breakthrough: the concept of the Leonardo Bridge, around 500 years old and successfully revitalised here.
The final challenge was the construction of a giant tangram. A square had to be created from 7 pieces of different shapes. Some teams quickly had a brilliant idea, while other teams struggled to find the right solution until the time ran out.
Not only physically exhausted, everyone agreed at the end of the successful team building event: teamwork is fun and results were achieved that were not thought possible at the beginning.
A nice metaphor for the challenging day-to-day business, which increasingly requires the creativity and teamwork skills of each individual to find practicable solutions.
